Odin is the chief god in Norse mythology and paganism.

Odin's name is related to óðr, meaning "fury", "excitation", "mind" or "poetry". His role, like many of the Norse pantheon, is complex. He is a god of wisdom, war, battle and death. He is also attested as being a god of magic, poetry, prophecy, victory and the hunt.

Legend has it that Odin sacrificed one of his own (all-seeing) eyes to drink from the well of knowledge. After drinking from the well, it is said, Odin gained knowledge of all things.

He then shared his knowledge with man.
